The Santa Barbara County Public Works Department has announced the winners of the inaugural ā€œWaterWise Garden Recognition Contest.ā€ The winners were selected on how well their home gardens used water, especially if the gardens were able to limit the use of drinking water.

The countywide grand prize winner was Christine Nolte of Santa Barbara, who received a $500 gift card to the nursery of her choice due to her garden’s water efficiency, which included a capture barrel that collected rainwater runoff from her roof. Nolte, who is a graduate of the ā€œGreen Gardener Program,ā€ also included several plants that attract local pollinators.

The winners in each respective region include Annette Winer of Goleta, Jon and Susan Everett of Carpinteria, Arthur Posche of Montecito, Ken and Shandy Mann of Santa Maria, and Jeannette and Harvey Wynne of Lompoc. More information is available at waterwisesb.org or 568-3000.
