The Santa Maria Stake of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (CJCLS) awarded six teachers from Central Coast high schools with Lighting the Way Educator plaques on May 3.
āOffering recognition to all dedicated teachers in our area is what the Lighting the Way educator program is all about,ā Santa Maria Stake President Darren Hulstine (pictured, center) said in a press release.
The recipients of Lighting the Way Educator awards were Carol Bernabe of Ernest Righetti High School, Christine Licoscos of St. Joseph High School, Ty Fredricks of Orcutt Academy High School, Stephanie Li (pictured, right) of Nipomo High School, Ryan James of Central Coast New Tech High School, and Ryan Glanville of Arroyo Grande High School.
Hulstine presented each teacher with a commemorative plaque in recognition of touching, influencing, and motivating the lives of their students. Recipients are chosen through student surveys. Central Coast high school students were asked to nominate their favorite teachers.
āWe believe in promoting the education of all people as a means to a richer, more sustainable life,ā Hulstine said in the release. āTo quote Thomas Jefferson, āAn educated citizenry is a vital requisite for our survival as a free people.āā
