Six outdoor sculptures will be displayed at various local libraries as part of Tiny Libraries on Tour, a new public art project sponsored by the Santa Barbara County Arts Commission in partnership with the cities of Santa Maria, Goleta, and Santa Barbara. The brightly colored sculptures were created by artist Douglas Lochner and each piece is of a punctuation mark. Los Alamos, Gaudalupe, and Santa Maria are among the cities set to display the sculptures, with the tour scheduled to run through April.

Before the project began, the sculptures were originally commissioned by the Santa Barbara County Office of Arts and Culture to be exhibited on State Street in Santa Barbara. After the sculptures were completed, the Arts Commission voted to fund their transportation to public libraries countywide. Each library will provide corresponding programming during their respective duration of the exhibition

ā€œWe hope the Tiny Libraries enjoy the same popularity they had on State Street,ā€ Jessica Cadiente, library director for Santa Barbara, Montecito, and Carpinteria, said in a press release, ā€œand serve as a reminder that the Public Library is a gateway to even more books, as well as community education classes, digital content, and more that spark curiosity and further learning.ā€Ā
