Heart of the Valley, a monthly local history series presented by the Santa Maria Public Library in partnership with local historian Shirley Contreras, hosts its next event on Saturday, April 20, at 10:15 a.m. This monthās guest speaker is Dawn Goodman, who will be speaking about the life of her father, Donald Goodman, a member of Allan Hancock Collegeās first graduating class in 1930.
The series is designed to present the public with interesting facts from the past that have helped shape Santa Maria and other local areas. Suggestions for possible speakers are always welcome at (805) 925-0994, Ext. 8562.
The event takes place on the third Saturday of each month in the libraryās Shepard Hall. Seating is limited and offered on a first come, first served basis. Admission is free.
The library is located at 421 S. McClelland St., Santa Maria.
