Altrusa of the Central Coast will feature Beth Wonson, Central Coast Literacy Council’s new executive director, at its monthly program luncheon at noon on April 23 at the Santa Maria Inn, 801 S. Broadway.

Wonson left a career in education to work in the nonprofit sector in 1998. She worked for 10 years with Project Adventure, a Massachusetts-based international organization focusing on training educators, counselors, and administrators on the use of experiential education methods.

In 2009, Wonson was recruited to serve as director of operations for the National Indian Youth Leadership Project in Albuquerque, N.M., coaching and mentoring staff to move into leadership positions within the organization, developing experiential curriculum, and writing grants.

She initially got involved in the San Luis Obispo Literacy Council, participating in tutor training classes; soon after, she accepted the position of executive director.

The luncheon costs $18, and reservations are necessary. Contact Richard at 925-7430 to RSVP.
