The Valley Speaks, an event sponsored by the Santa Maria Valley Historical Society and the Santa Maria Public Library, will feature George Majoue as speaker on Sept. 11 at the Santa Maria Public Library.

Majoue, executive director of the Santa Maria Philharmonic Society, will talk about classical music’s impact on the city since 1925, when a group of locals—including Allan Hancock, Robert Easton, and William Strowbridge—first performed as the Community Orchestra of Santa Maria.

This free event, which will include a 50/50 drawing and door prizes, will begin at 11 a.m. For more information, call 934-3514 or e-mail shirleycontreras2@yahoo.com.
