The Japan Earthquake Tsunami Support organization, along with the Santa Maria Japanese Community Center (SMJCC), in conjunction with Christ United Methodist Church and other civic/religious organizations, is sponsoring a fundraiser to be held at the Santa Maria Town Center on May 14 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. to benefit the victims of the earthquake and tsunami that devastated Japan on March 11.
The event will include the SLO Ichimi Taiko group from 11 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.; Lois Capps and the Rev. Dr. Camphouse and Sensei Adams from 11:30 a.m. to noon; a martial arts demo from noon to 12:30 p.m.; the Japanese Minyo Club from 12:30 p.m. to 1 p.m.; the Pualani Hula Group from 1 to 1:30 p.m.; a kimono fashion show from 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.; and Mr. Biggerās ukulele group, āThe Fleas,ā from 2:30 to 3 p.m.
The public is invited to learn how to make a paper crane or buy one for $1, with proceeds distributed among the joint efforts of the American Red Cross, United Methodist Committee on Relief, Buddhist Churches of America, Direct Relief International, the Asian Rural Institute, and Church World Service.
Sponsors include the Santa Maria Japanese Community Center, the Buddhist Church of Guadalupe, Christ United Methodist Church, the city of Santa Maria, and the Santa Maria Town Center.
