Sports fans and supporters of Allan Hancock College should be excited for the eighth annual Joe White Memorial Dinner and Auction, held on Aug. 29 by the Hancock Boosters, Inc. Sports memorabilia and one-of-a-kind auction items will be on hand.

Basketball fan? You’ll want to be there. Among the items will be a basketball signed by every member of the Los Angeles Lakers 2009 championship team, a shoe autographed by Lakers forward Lamar Odom, and four premium seats to a Lakers home game.

Baseball more your thing? There will be four field box VIP seats to the Oct. 3 Los Angeles Dodgers game, and pitching and hitting lessons with retired major-league pitcher Bryn Smith.

Besides the sports goodies, other items include a private tour of Diablo Canyon for 10, a firefighter-themed birthday party at a local fire station, and multiple gourmet dinners, including dinner for six at the Hitching Post and a filet and lobster feast prepared by Jim Glines and his famous barbecue crew.

The event will be held at the Santa Maria Fairpark Pavilion at 937 South Thornburg in Santa Maria. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. for a social hour and silent auction, followed by a steak dinner promptly at 7:07 p.m. and then the live auction.

Interested parties can raise their level of support by becoming a ā€œGold Table Sponsorā€ for a donation of $1,000. Gold Table Sponsors will receive premium seating for 10 guests, in addition to special wine with dinner and sponsor mentions in the event program and during the evening.
