Solvang’s initial Famous Jazz Artists Series is off to a running start with its second concert, featuring jazz guitarist Ron Eschete, scheduled for March 17 at the Terrace Dinner Theater, upstairs at Manny’s Restaurant.

Ruth Hoover of Solvang and Charlie and Sandi Shoemake of Cambria launched the famous Jazz Artists Series in February. The Shoemakes have been presenting the popular series for more than 20 years in Cambria, and Hoover hails from a previous life as owner/operator of two major Los Angeles jazz clubs.

Eschete is the consummate master of the seven-string guitar. He moved into the jazz arena from an education in classical music. His work with such greats as Gene Harris, Ella Fitzgerald, Sarah Vaughan, Diana Krall, Dizzy Gillespie, and more earned him a reputation as one of the finest jazz guitarists in L.A. He will join series regulars Charlie Shoemake on vibes and Sandi Shoemake on vocals along with jazz masters from Los Angeles, Luther Hughes on bass and drummer Paul Kreibich.

The concert follows on the heels of a sold-out February performance, featuring alto saxman Lanny Morgan with Joe Bagg, Tony Dumas, and Steve Schaeffer.

The March 17 concert includes buffet dinner at 6 p.m. followed by music from 7 to 9 p.m. at 1693 Mission Drive in Solvang. Tickets cost $35 per person. For more information, call 691-9137.
