The UCSB Sedgwick Reserve offers the public a chance for an informative hike through the beautiful and rugged terrain of the Santa Ynez Valley.
The hike, scheduled for Jan. 11, features three separate hikes with varying degrees of intensity: easy, moderate, and strenuous. Each hike will include a theme or themes including geology, landforms, Sedgwick panoramas, plants, and animals. The hikes end after two to three hours with the opportunity to picnic at the reserve.
Tours are also available of a renovated 100-year-old barn, the new observatory, the pond, and the new Tipton House. A bocce ball court is available as well as spots for painters at the pond.
Donations are suggested for the hikes, $10 per hiker or $15 per couple or family. Reservations are required for the hike. The hike will be canceled in the case of inclement weather. More information is available at 686-1941, Ext. 3, or Sedgwick@lifesci.ucsb.edu.
