The dog days of summer are here, and the Santa Maria Kennel Club is hosting its sixth annual Dog Agility Trial on Aug. 7 and 8 at the Santa Maria Elks Lodge.

Dogs and handlers will have to negotiate an obstacle course of jumps, weave poles, tunnels, A-frames, teeter-totters, dog walks, and a pause table within a specific time. Participants will compete in three games: Standard, Jumpers with Weaves, and FAST.

The event is open to all purebred and mixed-breed dogs registered with the American Kennel Club, and consists of three skill levels: novice (beginner), open (intermediate), and excellent.

Ā Both days will begin at 8:15 a.m. with the first dog on the line and run until approximately 3:30 p.m. Non-competing dogs are welcome, but must be well behaved and on a leash at all times while at the trial site.
