Allan Hancock College English professor Marc Garcia-Martinez, Ph.D., was selected as a finalist for the 2015 International Latino Book Awards in the Best First Book—Nonfiction category for his book The Flesh and Blood Aesthetics of Alejandro Morales’—Disease, Sex, and Figuration published in June of last year by San Diego State University Press.
The International Latino Book Awards ceremony takes place June 27 in San Francisco, where finalists receive first place, second place, or an honorable mention. Garcia-Martinez’s book analyzes the work of Alejandro Morales, an award-winning Chicano novelist, and explores imagery, symbolism, and the author’s obsession with the human body.
“It is so gratifying to have my scholarly work recognized,” Garcia-Martinez said in a statement released by Hancock. “Yet it is also valuable, for it not only affirms to my students that their professor is practicing what he preaches in the classroom, but more importantly it reminds them of the results of hard work.”
