Grace Baptist Church in Santa Maria is planning a one-night live reading of the Back to the Future script as a fundraising event on June 9. The community is invited to attend the free, family-friendly event where the screenplay will be read by a cast made up of local teachers, artists, and community members.
Admission is free, but donations will be given to the Ian M. Hassett Foundation, which is dedicated to enriching the lives of emerging artists on the Central Coast. The foundation offers a $1,000 art scholarship to Righetti High School seniors every year. The foundation also awards a $1,000 art grant through the annual Santa Maria Arts Council Grant Showcase.
The Ian M. Hassett Foundation was officially recognized by the state in 2013, one year after Righetti graduate Ian Hassett died of cancer.
āTo involve the community in an event that allows us to have fun and give back to a foundation that honors our late friend Ian is more than we could ever ask for,ā event organizer Alexandra Wallace told the Sun. āOver $600 was raised at our last reading, Toy Story 2, so weāre hoping even more will be raised this time around.ā
The Back to the Future reading starts at 7 p.m., at the Grace Baptist Churchās chapel building, located at 605 E. McCoy Lane, Santa Maria. For more info on the reading, contact Wallace at alexandra@alexandra-wallace.com. For more info about the Ian M. Hassett Foundation, visit ianmhassett.com.
