The Santa Maria Recreation and Parks Department, People for Leisure And Youth, Inc. (PLAY), and the Santa Maria Valley Sportsmen’s Association are inviting youth ages 6 to 12 to the annual “Take Me Fishing” event on Sept. 23 at Jim May Park.
From 9 a.m. to noon, children and parents can learn the basics of fishing and take part in catch-and-release fishing, a casting contest, and learn about lake life. Loaner fishing poles, tackle, and bait will be provided for all parent and child pairs. Free commemorative hats will be handed out to the first 100 children in attendance. No fishing experience is necessary.
