After four years of varsity wrestling at Pioneer Valley High School, senior Gabriela Rivas plans to continue her career at Waldorf University in Forest City, Iowa, next fall.
Rivas, who hopes to study education and English in college, earned several league honors throughout her time at Pioneer Valley, and helped her wrestling team win various league and regional championships.
“Gabriela is one of the hardest working, most dedicated wrestlers on the Pioneer Valley High School wrestling team,” head coach R.D. Noel told the Sun, adding that her coachability and natural leadership skills also help make her a great athlete.
Although Noel said he’ll miss having Rivas on the team, he’s glad she’ll be able to wrestle at the collegiate level.
“It’s always great to see them have this kind of success,” Noel said.
