The largest criterium racing weekend in California is scheduled for June 29 and 30. Sponsored by Firestone Walker Brewing Company, the two-race event will benefit the Santa Ynez Valley Cycling Club and Lompoc Police Foundation. Firestone’s 805 Ale is the title sponsor.

Criterium races are bike races over short distances that loop along a circuit of closed-off city streets.

ā€œThis is the Central Coast’s signature cycling event, and the 805 is the Central Coast’s signature local beer—so it’s a perfect fit,ā€ race director Mike Hecker said in a press release.

With 600 licensed U.S.A. cyclists expected to participate, the first race, the Avenue of Flags Criterium, is set for June 29 in Buellton. The Valley of the Flowers Criterium is scheduled for June 30 in Lompoc.

Riders of all ages and skill levels are invited to come out; the event starts at 7 a.m. Riders will enjoy a Firestone 805 Ale beer garden and a bike gear expo, and will have the chance to win numerous prizes.
