People interested in tracing their familial roots will be delighted to learn that the Santa Maria Public Library and the Santa Maria Valley Genealogy Society have joined forces to help locals with that very activity. The library, which already enjoyed a large genealogy collection, has agreed to house the societyās book collection as well, which doubles the libraryās collection.
A vast library of genealogy information can be hard to wade through, but volunteers with the society have agreed to be available to the public with information and guidance on Wednesdays from 1 to 4 p.m. at the library. The library also enjoys the use of Ancestry.com. Anyone on the premises of the Santa Maria Public Library can use the site, which holds one of the largest genealogical databases in the world.
The Santa Maria Public Library is at 421 S. McClelland in Santa Maria. Get more information via 925-0951, Ext. 828, or libraryreference@cityofsantamaria.org.
