The officers of the Filipino-American Association of Santa Maria Valley Inc., have collaborated to create a new song that captures the shared experiences of Filipino-Americans. Titled the ā€œFIL-AM Song,ā€ the lively jazzy song will be performed and premiered on Feb. 7 as part of the association’s meeting—at the Magic Dragon Restaurant in Santa Maria—that will also install newly elected officers.

The verses of the song were originally penned by FIL-AM of Santa Maria Valley vice-president Clarito De Francia, who received help from association members Armand Dela Rosa, Charles Lara, and Jim Salazar in refining the melody, rhythm, and chord structure of the song. The association’s officers will perform the new song after being sworn in by Judge Jed Beebe at the Feb. 7 meeting.
