The producers of the SLO County Health and Fitness Expo’s 5k Run announced the donation of $1,000 to benefit the Community Health Centers’ Teen Obesity Prevention Program.

Representatives of Simply Clear Marketing said the donation would provide 15 scholarships for needy students to participate in the program. Currently, 600 students in northern Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo counties participate in the program, and more than 200 additional students are signed up for the 2010 sessions.

As part of the program, Santa Maria’s InShape City and Arroyo Grande’s Kennedy Club Fitness provide discounted gym memberships to students.

The Health and Fitness Expo’s 5k Run was held Jan. 16 and 17 at the Alex Madonna Expo Center in San Luis Obispo and will return on Jan. 22 and 23 in 2011.
