Lompoc Civic Theatre will present Twelfth Night, William Shakespeare’s comedy of love, deceit, and frivolity, in early January.

This fully staged workshop production was rehearsed in a nine-day process. The story follows Viola, a stranded young lady who’s been separated from her brother at sea and takes on the appearance of a man. As she falls in love with Orsino, the Duke of Illyria, who is in turn, already entranced by the Lady Olivia, Olivia begins to fall for the new guy in town (Viola in disguise).

Todd Harper, an alumnus of Lompoc High School and UC Davis—and currently a stage management intern at PCPA Theaterfest—directs the play. Though not a musical, it features an original score by Jonathan Youngs, a music composition major at UC Davis. Music in the show ranges from a Spanish gypsy sound to hard rock. The three-piece band features two acoustic guitars and drums.

The show opens on Friday, Jan. 6, at 7 p.m. in the Lompoc High School Little Theatre. Performances continue on Saturday at 7 p.m. and Sunday at 2 p.m. Admission is free, but donations are accepted. Seating is first come, first served.
