The Dunes Center is asking the community for help in supporting the excavation of the sphinx still buried under Guadalupe dunes sand. The set piece from Cecil B. DeMille’s The Ten Commandments was partially excavated by the Dunes Center, but the organization is submitting a proposal to Santa Barbara County’s Coastal Resource Enhancement Fund to help get the rest of the set piece unearthed.

The proposal comes as the Santa Barbara International Film Festival gets set for a showing of Peter Brosnan’s documentary film The Lost City of Cecil B. DeMille, which features the buried set and the Dunes Center’s efforts to excavate it.

Locals can help the Dunes Center’s efforts by completing postcards, mailing letters, and in other ways. More information is available at admin@dunescenter.org or dunescenter.org.Ā
