Dana was a part of America’s burgeoning trade with East Asia in the early 19th century and resided in Canton, China, for two years and Calcutta, India, for one year before managing a trade depot in Hawaii. The young man’s experiences helped shape his career as a civic leader in Alta California and don of Rancho Nipomo.

Learn more from Daurio on July 18 at the DANA Cultural Center, 671 S. Oakglen Ave., Nipomo. Suggested donation is $5. More information is available at danaadobe.org.
