Nipomo’s DANA Adobe Cultural Center presents a collection of work from renowned California painter Milford Zornes through Jan. 27.
Zornes, who who was born in Oklahoma in 1908 and died in 2008, is famous for his unique style and color use in paintings depicting iconic landscapes in California. One of his paintings, a 1936 watercolor dubbed Old Barn in Nipomo, is currently held at the Smithsonian American Art Museum.
Zornes was a prominent leader of the California Scene Painters movement and a watercolor movement known as California Style. Zornes spent much of his life on the Central Coast, including his parents’ home in Nipomo. The exhibit at the center, called Sun and Wind By the Sea, represents more than 70 years of Zorne’s work.Ā
