Carlton will attend an art reception, open to the public, to celebrate the solo exhibit on Saturday, July 13, from 1 to 3 p.m. Some of Carlton’s works include landscapes, florals, folk art, ā€œplayful pieces,ā€ and more—some of her favorite subjects to paint include historic buildings, such as the Lompoc Museum and the Artesia School.Ā

ā€œI’ve painted a wide variety of subjects that have captured my imagination,ā€ Carlton said in press materials.

Initially accustomed to sketching with pencil, Carlton began painting 12 years ago, after retiring from her job of 21 years teaching at Vandenberg Middle School.Ā

The nonprofit is ā€œcommitted to expanding and supporting access and exposure to the arts in Lompocā€ and surrounding areas, according to press materials. The association’s aim is to sponsor arts programs, events, and other efforts that mutually benefit artists, businesses, local residents, and visitors to the area.Ā
