The Central Coast Literacy Council will hold its main fundraising Spelling Bee at 1 p.m. Sept. 17 in the Santa Maria Town Center. CCLC is looking for 40 teams of two people each to compete. Each team is sponsored by an organization or business in the community.
CCLC offers literacy training to adults in need. Classes are conducted by volunteer tutors who are specially trained to tutor adults. The CCLC offers tutoring sessions at more than 10 locations on the Central Coast. Dedicated volunteers devote time and energy to helping others learn English and how to read, but additional funds are needed to buy supplies, books, and cover administrative costs that go with running such a large program.
Teams and sponsors are needed, as well as volunteers to assist with the many tasks necessary to put this event together.
