PCPA Theaterfest Education and Outreach Tour is reaching out once again.

This year, the tour includes two originally adapted theater pieces designed to travel to schools from Ventura to Paso Robles. PCPA Education and Outreach Director Leo Cortez wrote the adaptation for Island of the Blue Dolphins, based on the book that’s been part of the 4th grade reading curriculum since the late ’60s.

Cortez said it’s rare for the estate of author Scott O’Dell to extend such rights to his book—PCPA’s been trying for nine years.

The tale is based on the true story of a young girl stranded on San Nicolas Island. The play involves puppetry to tell the tale of her five years of survival with no one but animals as friends.

The other show, The Circuit, reveals a portrait of migrant farm workers. It’s based on a biographical novella by Francisco Jimenez, who wrote about growing up in a series of labor camps just outside of Santa Maria.

Ā Both plays will tour through May 16. For booking information, call 928-7731, Ext. 3156, or e-mail pcpaoutreach@pcpa.org
