The Allan Hancock College women’s basketball team will have a new coach for the 2013-2014 season. A recent press release from AHC athletics announced that Coach Gary Nerelli, pending approval from the board of trustees, will take over as the basketball coach.
Nerelli, with more than 40 years of basketball coaching experience, has spent the last 26 years as the head coach of the girls’ basketball team at Morro Bay High School. During his time there, Nerelli earned Los Padres League Coach of the Year six times.
“I am going to be completely dedicated to building a competitive program at AHC,” he said.
The new face of Lady Bulldog basketball will soon begin recruiting for next season.
“There is enough talent here that if we can get those athletes to come to Hancock, we can turn this program around,” Nerelli said.
Hancock’s athletic director, Kim Ensing, is excited to see what Nerelli can do for women’s basketball.
“Coach Nerelli has a proven record of developing players and establishing quality women’s basketball teams,” Ensing said. “We are excited to welcome him into the Bulldog family.”
