A press release from the Allan Hancock College Athletic Department on Feb. 6 announced that three of its football players have signed letters of intent.

A ceremony was held at Joe White Memorial Gymnasium to honor Mershad Dillon, Demetrius Johnson, and Joshua Thornton.

Dillon, a defensive tackle and former Santa Maria High School graduate, will travel to Texas State. This past season, Dillon recorded 12.5 tackles and six sacks for the ’Dogs.

Johnson is taking his play to Division II Missouri Southern State University; the linebacker racked up 100 tackles for the Bulldogs last season.

Thornton will sign with Southern Utah, which plays in the Big Sky conference. Former Atascadero Greyhound and sophomore Connor Allen was also at the ceremony. As of press time, Allen had made a verbal commitment to University of San Diego.

According to Hancock Athletics, football coach Kris Dutra anticipates that more of his sophomores will receive attention from four-year schools in the coming weeks.
