Earlier this month, 10 Hancock baseball players were named to All-Conference and four players received the Golden Glove Award.
Catcher Ryan Welker and pitcher Nathan Thompson each received the Golden Glove Award for their division. Thompson was also named to First Team All-Conference for his work on the mound this last season. He pitched 83 innings and finished with a 2.17 earned run average.
First baseman Felipe Gonzalez and third basemen Ryan Bendele received the Golden Glove Award; Gonzalez was also named to Second Team All-Conference. All four Golden Glove recipients are freshmen who will return next year.
Five Hancock players (including Gonzalez) were also named to Second Team All-Conference. Infielder Jacob Witkowski, outfielders Tommy Lininger and Kyle Smith, and pitcher Marc Bailey received the award.
Players Ron Regalado, Marvin Fight, and Preston Thomas received Honorable Mention All-Conference.
Division 1 bound
Hancock point guard Leron Fisher recently signed a Division 1 letter of intent to play basketball at Longwood University in Virginia.
This last season, Fisher helped lead the Bulldogs to a 20-10 record, averaging 13.7 points and 4.3 assists per game.
Fisher said in a press release that his mother lives in Maryland and will be able to come to his games. He plans to major in business.
