Sometimes, two athletes are better than one, and that’s the case with Brittany Bolusan, 13, and Genevieve Aguilar, 15.

The two gymnasts are part of the Vandenberg Jets gymnastics team, dedicating about 20 hours per week in the gym to practicing.
They also act as junior coaches for the Jets’ Level 3 team—ages 5 through 8—and give up their weekend time for birthday parties at the gym.

The Level 3 team that Bolusan and Aguilar coach recently competed at the Final Frontier Classic in Camarillo and brought home the second-place prize.

“They’ve done well this season,” Aguilar said.

The duo’s commitment to gymnastics shines just as bright at competitions. Both Bolusan and Aguilar have qualified for the California Level 8 State Championships and will compete at the event in Long Beach on March 25. The two gymnasts also impressed the gymnastics community at the Final Frontier; Bolusan placed second on the beam with a 9.2, while Aguilar placed fifth on the vault.

“It wasn’t my best meet,” Aguilar admitted.

For Aguilar, the “Heart of a Champion” best represents her gymnastics inclination: She scored an 832.5 overall.

“Their work ethic and dedication to the sport is exemplary, and it’s been a privilege to watch them become so very accomplished,” said Lee Pledger, manager of the Jets’ gym.
