SPRING HAS SPRUNG: : The wild flowers were out in full force, adding lots of color to our outdoor adventure.
A while back I announced to my husband, Peter, that I was going to plan a romantic weekend getaway. I wanted to spend a couple of days exploring Catalina Island, or head up to San Francisco to see a ballet. I had lots of pretty ideas floating around in my head … until I took a peek at our bank account. (Peter and I are saving up for a house, so let’s just say things are tight.)
With a more reasonable budget in mind, I started thinking about some of the fun things we could do in a day. Luckily, we live in one of the most beautiful places on Earth, where there are plenty of activities to choose from. We decided to go on a romantic adventure up scenic U.S. Highway 1 for some hiking, sightseeing, and noshing—the end result being one of the most beautiful days I’ve spent on the Central Coast.
SO RELAXED: : We stopped near Piedras Blancas Light Station to check out the elephant seals. The mature males had already migrated south for the season, but there were plenty of adorable pups to coo over.
OM NOM NOM: : Famished from our four-mile hike, we stopped at Linn’s Fruit Bin Farm Store in Cambria for some delicious pie and ice cream. The farm store is located off the beaten path at 6275 Santa Rosa Creek Road, but it’s worth the drive because of the beautiful scenery.

THAT’S FRESH: : Even though we were stuffed with berry goodness, we couldn’t pass up the ginormous tacos and heavenly free salsa bar at Taco Temple, 2680 Main St. in Morro Bay. The prices might seem a little steep at first, but the portions more than make up for it!
