Sports fans will get a shot at taking home one-of-a-kind memorabilia while supporting Allan Hancock College during the ninth annual Joe White Memorial Dinner and Auction on Aug. 21.

Items up for bid this year include a John Madden autographed football, a UCLA jersey signed by the late John Wooden, a Kobe Bryant All-Star Los Angeles Lakers’ jersey signed specifically for the event, and a basketball autographed by every member of the Lakers’ 2010 NBA championship team.

Also on the auction block will be a wine refrigerator filled with local wine and private hitting and pitching lessons with retired Major League Baseball pitcher Bryn Smith. Gourmet dinners will also be available, including dinner and wine from the Hitching Post, a five-course Italian dinner for 10 with wine at Trattoria Uliveto, and a filet and lobster feast for 20 prepared by Jim Glines and his barbecue crew.

The auction will be held at the Santa Maria Fairpark Pavilion, located at 937 S. Thornburg in Santa Maria. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. for the social hour and silent auction. A New York-strip steak dinner starts promptly at 7:07 p.m., followed by the live auction.

Admission is $40 per person and $400 for tables of 10 guests. Parties can also support Hancock at the event by becoming a ā€œGold Table Sponsor.ā€ For a donation of $1,000, Gold Table Sponsors will receive premium seating for 10 guests, along with a special wine with dinner and sponsor mentions in the event program and during the evening.
