Santa Maria businesses and organizations wishing to celebrate the upcoming Autumn Arts Festival can do so by making a scarecrow for consideration in the festivals’ scarecrow decorating contest, a new addition to the festivities this year. Scarecrows and harvest-themed scenes can be set up in local storefronts or window displays in preparation for the festival.

The Autumn Arts Festival, also featuring the Grapes and Grains Beer and Wine Tasting Event, happens on Oct. 3, but local businesses wishing to create a scarecrow must meet the application deadline of Sept. 14 to be considered for the contest.

Also new to the Autumn Arts Festival this year is the Cutest Lil’ Pumpkin Costume Showcase, for children dressed in festive fall costumes. Application deadline for the costume showcase is Oct. 1.

More information, including applications for the scarecrow contest and the costume showcase, can be found at smartsfest.com. Tickets for the Grapes and Grains Beer and Wine Tasting Event are available at santamariakiwanis.org. More information is available through the Santa Maria Recreation and Parks Department at 925-0951, Ext. 260.
