Celebrate music in the garden

After seven successful seasons, the Santa Maria Philharmonic begins its eighth on Sept. 27 with a concert of selections from Weber, Schubert, Elgar, and Tchaikovsky. To kick off the 2008-2009 season, the Santa Maria Philharmonic Society will host a fundraiser on Sept. 7, titled ā€œGarden Party at Ambrosia,ā€ at the Ambrosia Restaurant, 122 E. Boone St. in Santa Maria, from 2 to 4 p.m. .

Philharmonic board members will pour wines from local wineries. There will be raffle prizes, including decorative garden urns, live plants, garden art, stepping stones, wind chimes, and a membership to Lotusland in Montecito.

The Santa Maria Philharmonic Society is an all-volunteer organization that relies on grant funding, corporate sponsorships, membership, donations, fundraisers, and concert attendance for its operations of music events, which include outreach children’s programs for third and fourth graders in the local school districts. Season tickets are now on sale.

Tickets for ā€œGarden Party at Ambrosiaā€ cost $20 per person and may be purchased at the Philharmonic office at 120 E. Jones, suite 120, Santa Maria or at Ambrosia. For more information, call 925-0412.
