Art classes are set to begin
The newly opened C Gallery, showing contemporary art in Los Alamos, is taking enrollment for art classes for adult women, taught by Connie Rohde-Stanchfield. The intimate beginning drawing and art-making class is limited to five women, and will begin by exploring art elements and principles of design through drawing. The class will practice with ink and wash, and watercolor. The 10-month long class will take its direction from the strengths and desires of the enrollees.
Workshops in painting will be offered by Karina Puente, Rohde-Stanchfieldās former student, and other local painters. Students can expect the class to evolve into self-directed studio time, for the most part, though there will be sketchbooks and drawing exercises to cultivate drawing skill and visual acuity.
The class meets once a week for three hours and will include background in art history through discussion and articles. There will be travel opportunities related to the studio/art history focus.
The morning class will meet from 9 a.m. until noon. The evening class will meet from 6:30 until 9:30 p.m. The days of the week for class meetings will be determined by the enrollees to accommodate schedules. Space will be reserved on a first-pay basis. Cost is $200 a month.
Rohde-Stanchfield is the Gallery Director and instructor of the C Gallery classes. A seasoned teacher, Rohde-Stanchfield taught art at Santa Ynez High School for the last 15 years. For more info or to enroll, call the C Gallery at 344-3807 or e-mail connie@thecgallery.com.
