Vintners’ Festival poster art unveiled

Local artist and muralist Angie Hamlin was selected to have her artwork featured for the 2009 Santa Barbara County Vintners’ Festival. The painting, titled Purisima Road Vineyard, is featured on the annual poster for the event.

The Vintners’ Festival takes place from 1 to 4 p.m. on April 18 at River Park. There will be wines from more than 100 wineries, live music, and more than 30 participants offering food, a silent auction, demonstrations, and more. Visit the artist at the Merchandise Canopy and pick up a signed poster.

Tickets for the Vintners’ Festival are $75 in advance or $85 at the door. Tickets are available at sbcountywines.com. For more information, call 688-0881.

Support literacy, play Scrabble

Grab a dictionary and get ready to support Lompoc’s literacy programs. The Lompoc Public Library is hosting Scrabble Mania, a fundraiser for the Library’s Literacy Programs, at 5 p.m. on April 19 in the Grossman Gallery. Registration includes dinner, two rounds of Scrabble, and raffle prizes. Trophies will be awarded to the 
highest scorers in beginning, intermediate, and advanced categories. For families, one child can enter free with each paid adult.

A free practice night is being held in the Gallery on April 5 at 6 p.m. for anyone who wants to brush up or learn how to play Scrabble.

Individual registration or team sponsorship is currently being accepted at the library at 501 E. North Avenue in Lompoc or by calling 735-READ.

Find wine, roses, and art

Take time to sniff the flowers—and sip the wine—at the eighth annual Nipomo Wine, Flower, and Arts Festival, which runs from 1 to 4 p.m. on April 26 at the Nipomo Old Town Nursery, 323-A West Tefft St., in Nipomo.

The event will feature a variety of blooming plants, flowering shrubs, and floral items for sale, along with local artists displaying their works.

Several wineries will present their wines, and there will be an assortment of gourmet items to sample while guests stroll through the nursery.

Admission costs $25. Tickets are available at Nipomo Rexall, Nipomo Flowers and Gifts, Nipomo Old Town Nursery, and Rabobank in Nipomo.
