The Santa Maria Arts Council will award a total of $10,000 this year to encourage and support the valleyās brightest emerging artists in dance, drama, music, and visual arts. First place awards are $1,500 and second place awards are $1,000.
Applicants must have two years of residency and art study in the Santa Maria area, which includes Buellton, Cuyama, Guadalupe, Lompoc, Orcutt, and Santa Ynez. Applications are only available by attending one of the Grants Workshops.

Soares Ave., Orcutt; Feb. 20 at 1 p.m. at Dance Workshop at Allan Hancock College, Santa Maria, D-10; Feb. 23 at 6:15 p.m. at Allan Hancock College, Santa Maria, building L-South in the ARC; March 1 at 6:15 p.m. at the C Gallery, 466 Bell St., Los Alamos; and March 6 at 10 a.m. at Allan Hancock College, Santa Maria, Fine Arts Building, room F-11.
Competition judging is April 17 with the awards presentation at 5:30 p.m. on May 17 at the Veteransā Memorial Community Center.
