The Nipomo High School Titans Robotics Team is holding an open house on Dec. 4 from 1 to 4 p.m., giving visitors an opportunity to play with the team’s robots and discuss their ideas with students.

The event also promises free food, desserts for donation, T-shirts for sale, and door prizes.

The Nipomo High School team is hoping to raise $30,000 to return to their fourth consecutive VEX World Robotics Championships, held in April at Disney World in Orlando. On Nov. 13, the team qualified for the event, taking two robots to the High Desert VEX Tournament in Hesperia. Robot 563B finished its qualifying rounds 4-1 and went 2-0 in the quarterfinal, 2-1 in the semifinal, and 2-1 in the finals.

Team members Mikkel Sandberg, Nefi Lazalde, Kristian Chavez, Michael Ebeling, DJ Llorente Blankenburg, Scott Gaddis, Ali Gomez, Mandy Liu, Mona Liu, Victoria Kaml, and Selene Avila meet after school each week to plan, build, test, and rebuild robot designs for competitions.

For more information, call robotics teacher Greg Gracia at 474-3300, Ext. 3106.
