Each year, Team Tailwinds—a local community cycling team—contributes to different charities and nonprofits. Members try to think of donations that most fit the cause.
This year, the team planned to present Santa Maria’s Good Samaritan Shelter with four new bicycles and accompanying locks and helmets at Spencer’s Fresh Market, at the shop’s monthly customer appreciate event: Free Flapjack Friday.
Tailwinds member Hans Kardel explained in a press release that the bikes will go to homeless people who are temporarily staying at the shelter.
“It’s easy to forget about adults who are in need who are working to get back on their feet,” Kardel said in the release. “We wanted to make sure the money went to the right place.”
Spencer’s Fresh Market has sponsored Team Tailwinds for the last five years. For more information about the team, visit www.teamtailwinds.com. For more information about Spencer’s, visit spencersfreshmarkets.com.
