The Santa Maria Fire Department is celebrating its centennial anniversary of service to the Santa Maria Valley on April 25 at 10 a.m. at the Alvin Newton Memorial Site at the Southeast corner of Main and Broadway, Santa Maria.

The event will feature an honor ceremony for Alvin Newton, a Santa Maria firefighter who died putting out the Bradley Hotel fire on April 25, 1970. The department invites the community to join in the remembrance with Santa Maria firefighters and members of Newton’s family.
