The Santa Maria Valley Discovery Museum and Good Samaritan Shelter are inviting local shoppers to pick up some great holiday gifts—all while supporting a good cause—at its second annual Reason for the Season Holiday Shopping Extravaganza on Dec. 9 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the museum on East Jones Street in Santa Maria.

“Everybody knows that sharing, caring, and generosity are reasons for the season, so now’s a great time to show we care about the disadvantaged children in our community,” museum employees said on their website, smvdiscoverymuseum.org.

A collection of small businesses have agreed to donate 20 percent of their proceeds from the event to help pay for children’s programs and fieldtrips, as well as provide annual museum memberships to needy families. Participating businesses include Arm Candy Purse Parties,
Avon, Barefoot Books, BJ’s Handpainted Designs, Baukje Kauffman Unique Jewelry, Homemade Jams and Jellies, Mary Kay, Pampered Chef, Rendi, Scentsy, Thirty-One Gifts, and Tupperware.

In addition to shopping opportunities, there will also be a raffle and complimentary wine and hors d’oeuvres (while they last). The Reasons for the Season Holiday Shopping Extravaganza is open to the public, and there’s no charge to come in and shop.
