Shifting from realism to expressionism throughout his career as an artist, Joe Gliebe-Goetz is displaying his abstract patterns based on natural themes at the Cypress Gallery. See the featured artist show in Lompoc through Sept. 27.
Landscapes, Gemstones, and New Directions reflects the painter’s passion for local, natural beauty. Gems and stones also inspire Gliebe-Goetz’s work, as seen in Six Stones (pictured).
“The patterns found in stones are a result of the lapidary art experience where he hand-polishes and creates jewelry and mixed media pieces that incorporate stones into the piece,” according to press materials. “There is a constant search for natural patterns of color and beauty that are usually seen small in a ring or pendant. However, he has this urge to share it large.”
Since moving to Lompoc, Gliebe-Goetz has appreciated finding a friendly group of talented artists in the area. He enjoys experimenting with new methods and perspectives, including collaborating with his son who creates pouring art.
Community members are invited to join Gliebe-Goetz for a reception on Sept. 13 from 1 to 3 p.m. at the gallery, located at 119 E. Cypress Ave. in Lompoc. Normal hours at the Cypress Gallery are 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. from Thursday to Sunday. For more information visit lompocart.org.
