After the remodeling of the Joseph Centeno Government Center at 511 E. Lakeside Parkway in Santa Maria, the Santa Barbara County Arts Commission has been at work preparing two new exhibits for the locations. “Town Center Moves North: Town Center Gallery Artists” will be showing June 24 through Sept. 27 and “The Anne and Walon Green Collection: The Paintings of Channing Peake” will be showing July 1 through Sept. 18.
The two shows will enjoy a joint reception, which will also feature the ribbon cutting for the newly remodeled building, on July 1. The ribbon cutting ceremony is from 2 to 3 p.m., with the reception from 3 to 5 p.m. Town Center Gallery artists will be providing art demonstrations during the reception from 3 to 4 p.m.
The Town Center Gallery, which had to close its galleries months ago, is a coalition of local artists who have lately been showing works at the Santa Maria Airport, and now the Betteravia Gallery. Santa Barbara County Arts Commission curator of collections and visual arts coordinator Rita Ferri is curator for the exhibit, choosing the selections from a pool of Town Center Gallery artists’ works.
The Peake exhibit features 10 modernist works by the painter, donated by Anne and Walon Green to Santa Barbara County. The county previously had only one Peake painting, but now boasts a large collection, which will show at the Betteravia Gallery for three months before moving to Santa Barbara’s Channing Peake Gallery.
