Funding for the Santa Maria Historical Society was dramatically impacted by the city’s budget cuts, and the organization is now reaching out to the community for support.

The Historical Society is teaming up with PCPA Theaterfest to hold an inaugural ā€œReception, Silent Auction, and PCPA Performanceā€ on Aug. 14. The reception starts at 12:30 p.m. in the reception room next to the Marian Theatre at 800 S. College in Santa Maria. There will be refreshments, entertainment, and a silent auction before the 2 p.m. Songs for a New World performance.

Tickets cost $55, include a framed 10-by-17-inch photo of downtown Santa Maria from 1955, and are available at the Santa Maria Historical Society, 616 S. Broadway, or by calling the Historical Society at 922-3130.

The Santa Maria Historical Society contains artifacts, records, and colorful displays that present and preserve the heritage of the Santa Maria Valley.

For more information, call Richard Chenoweth, museum director, at 922-3130.
