On March 7, experts in child development, education, health, and family dynamics will share their knowledge with hundreds of local parents at the 33rd Annual Parents Are Teachers Too Conference in Lompoc.

ā€œThe main message of the conference is that parents are their child’s primary teacher, especially during the first five years, which are some of the most important developmentally,ā€ said Teressa Rodriguez-Johnes, event co-organizer and a program specialist for First 5 Santa Barbara County.

The conference, held at Lompoc High School, will feature workshops led by dozens of specialists, including licensed marriage and family therapists, dietitians, educators, and members of the justice system. Along with the workshops, this year’s conference will feature keynote speaker Roberto Dansie, a clinical psychologist and expert on cultural diversity.

Susan Williams, principal at Lompoc Unified Adult Education, said pre-registration for the event has already passed, but spaces are still available through the event’s sponsors: Lompoc Unified Adult Education, First 5 Santa Barbara County, Community Action Commission, and the Santa Ynez Band of Chumash Indians.

People interested in attending are encouraged to contact their respective organizations for more information. The registration fee is $15 and includes lunch.
