The California Department of Education and Los Angeles County Office of Education recently named Lompoc’s Cabrillo High School an “Academy Award” winner for its Support Personnel Accountability Report Card.
Every year, the state and regional education office recognize a handful of exemplary school counseling and student support programs by presenting them with the accolades.
The report card was developed and sponsored by Los Angeles County counselors, administrators, and California Department of Education consultants. It tracks schools’ counseling programs and student support teams and determines whether or not they’re communicating effectively.
The California Department of Education and the Los Angeles County Office of Education have honored 73 school counseling and student support programs with Academy Awards. Approximately 236 cards were submitted this year for award consideration, and winners were selected based on peer reviews.
“During these difficult times, I find it extraordinary that regardless of obstacles, the staffing team at Cabrillo maintains one focus: the well-rounded and comprehensive education of our most precious resource,” Kris Andrews, Lompoc Unified School District Board of Education vice president, said in a press release.
Cabrillo’s report card highlighted the student support services provided at the school by detailing several categories, including student support personnel team, school climate and safety (including student discipline referral data), high school exit exam passing rates, community partnerships and resources, and personal/social development programs available for students.
Vandenberg Middle School was also recognized for its report card, according to the release. The school received a commendation award.
