The new mayor of Lompoc, Michael Siminski, will sign a proclamation to declare October as Domestic Violence Awareness Month at the Lompoc City Council Meeting on Oct. 6 at 7 p.m. Domestic Violence Solutions Executive Director Richard Kravetz will be there.

Ā

The month will honor people who have fallen to domestic violence, as well as its survivors. It will also mark a time for people to come together to end the crime’s spread.

Ā

The National Coalition Against Domestic Violence reports that about a quarter of all women have or will report physical or sexual abuse from their husband or boyfriend. Within the last decade, nearly 30 Santa Barbara County women have been shot, stabbed, or beaten to death by their intimate partner, according to a press release.

Ā

Domestic Violence Solutions will hold several events throughout the month to raise awareness about domestic abuse. On Oct. 1, a candlelight vigil comes to the Allan Hancock College Lompoc campus from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Oct. 4 marks the High Esteem Tea at the Four Seasons Biltmore Santa Barbara from 2 to 4 p.m. And on Oct. 13, a candlelight vigil will illuminate the Santa Maria City Library from 6 to 7:30 p.m.
