Have a bite to eat, and learn a little more about COLAB at the same time.

Andy Caldwell, founding executive director for the Coalition of Labor, Agriculture, and Business, Santa Barbara County, will speak at the Santa Maria Valley Chamber of Commerce Business Development Committee luncheon on Jan. 20.

Caldwell hosts a radio talk show that airs from 3 to 5 p.m. on 1440 AM (Santa Maria) and 1410 AM (Lompoc) and online at am1440.com. He’s also got a weekly radio show on 1290 AM in Santa Barbara, which airs live on Thursdays at 2 p.m. and again on Thursday nights at 10 p.m. and Sunday mornings at 8 a.m. He’s written a bi-weekly column in the Santa Maria Times and Lompoc Record since 1995.

COLAB counts more than 1,300 members from throughout the county. The group demands that elected officials consider the impact to businesses and taxpayers for practically everything they do, and insists members of county government follow federal and state law as opposed to leaving county staffers to create their own laws.

The luncheon is open to any business leader interested in networking and learning about events, activities, and proposals that could impact businesses, the city, the county, or the state.

The event starts at noon at the Santa Maria Fair Park’s Satellite Wagering Facility, 937 S. Thornburg (between Morrison and Stowell, directly behind the Santa Maria High School stadium). An opportunity for networking with other community leaders starts a half hour earlier. Admission costs $12. All reservations must be in no later than 2 p.m. on Jan. 16. Contact Etta Waterfield at the Chamber office at etta@santamaria.com or 925-2403, Ext. 817.
