The Santa Maria Reds, a new semipro summer baseball team, will be holding a series of events throughout May.
Each Saturday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and Sunday from noon to 1 p.m. will be “Meet the Reds” day at the Pitchout batting cages. Children ages 8 to 13 are invited to take part in a free hitting instruction from Reds’ players, and to enjoy hot dogs and soda. Kids will also be entered in a drawing for the chance to win an autographed baseball, a team hat, and a T-shirt on opening night.
On May 21, the Reds will also host a Texas Hold ’Em fundraiser at 219 N. Russell Ave. in Santa Maria, beginning at 5 p.m. A $100 unlimited buy-in is required, and $2,000 in door prizes will be handed out. Complimentary food and drinks will be provided.
