The Nipomo High School Drama Department is seeking donations to offset the cost of travel to participate in the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in Scotland in August. The festival is the world’s largest and most prestigious arts festival. The Nipomo High School drama department will be part of the American High School Theatre Festival. Nominated by PCPA, the department competed with 3,000 applicants from across the United States. Only 3 percent of nominated schools were invited to attend.

The Fringe Festival attracts hundreds of thousands of international theater enthusiasts and includes more than 1,800 performances of music, theater, dance, and comedy. The Nipomo students, in addition to performing themselves, will experience shows from around the world. They’ll also sightsee in Scotland and England, making stops at Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre, London’s West End Theatre District, and Stirling Castle.

The department has already raised about half of the cost of the trip. The Clark Center Foundation, which built and maintains the Clark Center and provides performing arts scholarships for local high school seniors, has donated $6,000 to the Nipomo High School Drama Department to help finance the trip. Still, more donations are needed. Send contributions to Drama Scholarship Fund, attention Robyn Metchik, Nipomo High School, 525 North Thompson Road, Nipomo, CA 93444.
